Behaviour & Emotional Regulation

Gentle Craniosacral Therapy for Children in Bromley

Big emotions are a normal part of growing up. However, some children can find frustration, anger, anxiety or overwhelm particularly difficult to manage. These feelings may be expressed through behaviour at home, at school or in social situations, leaving parents unsure how best to provide calm and reassuring support.

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, light-touch complementary therapy that provides children with time and space to relax. Every child is different, so appointments are adapted around their individual needs, comfort and willingness to participate. There is no pressure to talk, remain completely still or behave in a particular way.

Some families choose Craniosacral Therapy alongside support from their child’s GP, paediatrician, mental health professional, school or SENCO. Sessions focus on relaxation and general wellbeing. Craniosacral Therapy does not diagnose or treat behavioural, developmental or mental health conditions and should not replace appropriate professional care.

What Families Say

Frequently Asked Questions

Behaviour & Emotional Regulation

What does emotional regulation mean for children?
Emotional regulation is a child’s developing ability to recognise and respond to feelings such as frustration, anger, worry or excitement. This develops gradually and can look different for every child. Some children may need additional reassurance or professional support when emotions regularly become overwhelming.
Can Craniosacral Therapy support children with emotional regulation?
Some families choose Craniosacral Therapy as a complementary form of wellbeing support when their child finds emotional regulation difficult. Appointments provide a calm, child-led space for relaxation without asking the child to behave, talk or respond in a particular way.
Can Craniosacral Therapy help with meltdowns or overwhelm?
Craniosacral Therapy does not diagnose or treat the underlying cause of meltdowns. However, a gentle appointment can provide quiet time for relaxation and comfort. Frequent or severe episodes of overwhelm should also be discussed with an appropriate healthcare, education or mental health professional.
My child’s behaviour changes when they are anxious or overwhelmed. What should I do?
Behaviour can be one way a child communicates anxiety, distress or overwhelm. Your first appointment gives you time to discuss what you have noticed and whether Craniosacral Therapy may be suitable as complementary wellbeing support. Persistent or concerning changes should be discussed with your child’s GP, paediatrician, school or another appropriate professional.
What happens during my child’s first appointment?
The appointment begins with a relaxed conversation about your child, their general wellbeing and any concerns you would like to discuss. There is no pressure to begin treatment immediately. Any hands-on work is gentle, unhurried and guided by your child’s comfort and willingness to participate.
Will my child need to behave in a particular way or stay still?
No. Children do not have to remain completely still or respond in a particular way. Marissa follows their cues and allows time for movement, conversation, breaks or reassurance whenever needed. A parent or carer can remain with their child throughout the appointment.
Is Craniosacral Therapy safe for children, and does it involve manipulation?
Craniosacral Therapy uses a gentle, light-touch approach and does not involve forceful manipulation. Appointments are adapted around the child’s comfort. Please tell Marissa about any diagnosed conditions, recent injuries or medical care before treatment so suitability can be discussed.
How many appointments might my child need, and how do I book?
There is no set number of appointments because every child and family is different. Marissa can discuss the available options after meeting your child, without asking you to commit to a course of treatment. You can book online or contact Marissa before arranging an appointment.
